City officials are responding to complaints from residents about increased traffic in their neighborhood because of more than 100 officially registered businesses located in homes.

Buena Vista schools were approved last month to join iTeach, an accelerated teacher licensure program.
SVU will start enforcing parking permits and add more parking spaces to address Buena Vista residents’ concerns. The new residence hall will house several hundred students, which has prompted much of neighbors’ concerns.
Incumbent city council members want to continue their ongoing projects, but four challengers prefer to push Buena Vista forward by focusing on taxes, infrastructure and the budget.
Some Lexington and Rockbridge County voters cast ballots early because it’s convenient or they want to avoid crowds. Virginia has one of the longest early voting seasons in the nation.
Buena Vista has received a $72,000 state grant to study flood areas and create a plan to prevent floods. Historically, Buena Vista has endured floods spawned by hurricanes and some flooding without catastrophic storms. The grant will fund a study but work to prevent floods will need to come from other sources.
Police allege Brian Rowsey held illegal bingo nights at the Buena Vista barbecue establishment without the required license.
Police say they are talking to local businesses about crime, hoping to connect with members of the community to improve the the streets of Buena Vista.
“When you start looking out and bringing people from other areas to fill your teaching spots, it’s harder to do if your salaries aren’t competitive,” said Buena Vista Superintendent Tony Francis.
“People really need to understand that homelessness can happen to any of us,” said Lydia Campbell. “The question is not, ‘What did you do to end up in homelessness?’ The question has to be, ‘What happened?’”
