Rockbridge County, Lexington and Buena Vista fire departments continue to struggle with staffing shortages, increased calls, and the rising cost of equipment. Lexington is the only department in the area with full-time career firefighters, who help other communities by answering calls when they can. Smaller communities like Rockbridge Baths struggle to recruit volunteers and replace old equipment.
