For the first time since the 1980s, city leaders say storefronts in downtown Buena Vista are filling up faster than they are moving out. Eight new businesses, including Asunder Coffee Roasters and Focus Fitness, have opened in the past year with help from city officials and the nonprofit Main Street Buena Vista. Some locals say Magnolia Avenue and the surrounding downtown area still haven’t recovered from the floods that tore through the city in the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Others say they are excited about, and proud of, downtown’s recent growth.
