Republican Rep. Ben Cline will hold his seat as the representative of Virginia’s 6th House District.
The Associated Press called the race around 8 p.m.
The victory does not come as a surprise. In 2018, Cline defeated Democrat Jennifer Lewis by 20 percentage points and in 2020, Cline defeated Democrat Nicholas Betts by 25 percentage points.
With 292 precincts of 323 reporting on Tuesday night, Cline held 65% of the vote. The last precincts to report will be mail-in ballots that arrived today.
In Rockbridge County, Cline led Lewis with 75% of the vote with 16 precincts of 20 reporting. In Buena Vista, Cline held a commanding lead as well with 71% of the vote with four of five precincts reporting.
Lewis led Cline in the historically Democratic Lexington with 65% of the vote with 3 precincts of 4 reporting.
Cline’s win in the 6th District comes amidst close battles in other districts, such as Districts 2 and 10.
In the 2nd district, Republican Jen Kiggans led incumbent Democrat Elaine Luria with 55% of the vote with 232 precincts of 247 reporting. In the 10th District, Incumbent Democrat Jennifer Wexton led Republican Hung Cao with 52% of the vote with 188 of 209 precincts reporting.
These races are too close to call as of 10:15 p.m. Tuesday evening.
