Police Chief Angela Greene is working to combat staffing shortages in the Lexington Police Department by reinvesting savings from unspent salaries on a $2,500 retention bonus for officers who stay on for two years and providing sign-on bonuses of $5,000 for certified officers and $1,500 for recruits. Lexington City Council and Greene hope this will make the department here more competitive with nearby cities and incentivize officers to join and stay.
