Lexington, Va.– A volunteer-based organization named American Dams is offering to purchase the dam at Jordan’s Point. The Lexington City Council voted last June to remove the dam but may transfer it to Rockbridge County for eventual purchase and repair.
The state has placed an Oct. 4 deadline on any decision concerning saving the dam, but American Dams says it will need 90 days to complete the required full inspection. Federal funds allocated to the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for dam removal must be partially spent by March.
