The Virginia General Assembly is considering Senate Bill 37, which would create incentives for grocery store expansions into low-income areas that do not have access to nutritious food within 10 miles. Virginia State Sen. Creigh Deeds, a Democrat who represents Rockbridge, Charlottesville, Bath and other nearby counties, is among the bill’s supporters. Deeds said public funds would prime the pump for private investment.
