Rockbridge County is currently overhauling its residential trash collection system, changing from a system of open dumpster sites to one of  staffed solid waste collection facilities in fewer locations. The move has not come without difficulty, as administrators say that finding sites for the new facilities has been a slower process than originally anticipated due to push-back from neighbors of proposed locations. The county says that the plan should be completed within eight to ten months, but if complications persist, that date could be much farther in the future.
