Eighth graders at Parry McCluer High School in Buena Vista are participating in a new program aimed at educating students about law enforcement. The program, the Junior Police Academy, focuses on a variety of topics normally dealt with by police—drug abuse, traffic stops, criminal investigations and working with local judicial systems. The nine-week program also teaches students about ethics and integrity and how these components are integral to being a police officer. At the end of the program, students receive a certificate of completion during a graduation ceremony.
