The leadership of Goshen remains unclear.
No one ran for mayor of Goshen this year and the write-in campaign results could not be determined even with all precincts reporting as of 9 p.m. election night.
When the names of the write in candidates are revealed, the winner’s confirmation is contingent on that person being a resident in Goshen, who is willing to serve in the voluntary role.
Both the mayor’s job and two town council seats were open this election. Citizens of Goshen decided two of those positions through the write-in process.
Only one candidate put his name on the ballot for Election Day. Tom McCraw, who just finished his first term on town council, had 41 percent of the votes with 100 percent of the precincts reporting.
Goshen is one of two incorporated towns in Rockbridge County. The 2015 U.S. Census estimates 324 people live in the small town.
This is not the first time the town has had trouble filling the mayor’s office. Joey Sampson was elected by a write-in vote in 2014 but resigned after only a year in office. Justin Thompson, who was mayor from 2010 to 2014, stepped in to finish out the term until this special election could be held.
