Write-in candidate Andy Ryan could join re-elected members Michael Turner and James “Sonny” Williams on Glasgow Town Council, Williams said Tuesday night. Write-ins totaled 87 votes for the third vacant seat.
The Rockbridge Report could not confirm that Ryan won enough votes to take a seat on the council, and Ryan couldn’t be reached at his home phone number to confirm if he would accept the council position. But his wife, Susan, said he was the write-in candidate.
Williams said Ryan has lived in town for only a few years and works out of town as a taxidermist.
Turner and Williams were the only two candidates running for three open seats on council this year.
Glasgow Town Manager Bill Rolf said this was the first time the town had to have a write-in election.
Turner has served on council since 2008 as chair of the ordinance and finance committees. Williams has also served on the ordinance committee, as well as the water and sewer and parks and recreation committees.
Williams just finished his first term on council.
