Engineer-turned-artist Louis Markoya says his work was inspired by his four years as studio assistant to surrealist painter Salvador Dali. Markova doesn’t describe his own work as surrealist, but he uses his knowledge of mathematics and technology to render his unique paintings. Many of his pieces, along with two Dali originals from Markoya’s personal collection, are on display in the Staniar Gallery at Washington and Lee University. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Markoya’s exhibition will remain until March 20.
