The Glasgow and Fairfield rescue squads have been paying emergency workers since the beginning of February. Rockbridge County Fire and EMS Director Brandon Mitchell hopes that moving away from all-volunteer squads will cut response times. Mitchell expects paid workers to be part of more county squads eventually.
