Headed to the polls on Tuesday? Don’t forget to bring a photo identification.

Virginia law requires all voters to provide an acceptable form of photo identification if they are voting in person at their polling place.

Luckily, there are several types of acceptable photo ID’s voters can use when they vote, and all of the acceptable forms can be used for up to a year after they expire. Acceptable ID’s include:

  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License or Identification Card
  • Valid Virginia DMV-issued Veterans’ ID card
  • Valid United States Passport
  • Other government-issued photo identification cards
  • Valid college or university photo identification card from an institution located in Virginia
  • Employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter and issued by an employer of the voter in the ordinary course of the employer’s business.

If you do not have any of these forms of identification, go to your nearest Voter Registration Office and apply for a free Virginia Voter Photo ID Card.  A complete list of Voter Registration Offices can be found online.
