Nineteen local restaurants cooked up their best soups for charity this past weekend. Washington and Lee’s second annual “Souper” Bowl raised more than $7,600 for the University’s Campus Kitchen Backpack Program on Sunday. The program, started in 2009, provides 670 students in the Rockbridge Area with food-filled backpacks each Friday. The backpacks are distributed to students who receive school-subsidized meals to ensure that they have something to eat during the weekends.

Carolyn Holtzman has the report.
