After nearly nine months and with no fanfare, the Nelson Street bridge in Lexington reopened late Tuesday. A decaying old structure was removed to make way for the new span. The work was finished almost a month earlier than officials had projected.  Drivers and pedestrians who had gotten used to a detour onto Washington Street are using Nelson Street again. The city is planning an opening ceremony called Rock the Bridge for Dec. 7.
