Voters went to the polls today in Lexington, Buena Vista and the Rockbridge area to cast ballots for governor and local candidates. Voting has been brisk at Buena Vista all day. General Registrar Arlene Garett says, “It’s been steady, not long lines. It’s been a good day.” By  the time polls closed, she said 1,217  had voted. Voter turnout is higher than expected in Rockbridge County. Diane Wade, assistant county registrar, said 52,067 people voted by 4:30 p.m. Lexington had a 35.5 percent turnout by 4:45 p.m., said Registrar Janet Beebe.
