Republicans won big on election night in Virginia for the first time since 2019. The party took back major positions including governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.

Republicans continue to move towards total control of the state government, with newly-elected Winsome Sears becoming the first woman to serve as lieutenant governor and the first woman of color to hold statewide office.

Both Catie Austin-Brown and Scott Guise, newcomers running for school board and Board of Supervisors respectively, are now behind as of Wednesday morning. Also, in Walkers Creek, incumbent Jay Lewis is holding on to his Board of Supervisors seat.
