The Buena Vista Police Department recently installed nine new cameras — three dome cameras downtown and six license plate readers at city entry points — using a federal grant. Police say the system does not use facial recognition and isn’t monitored around the clock. Officers say it helps deter crime and locate suspect vehicles, but some residents worry about government overreach.
