City officials say that Parry McCluer Middle School needs so many repairs that it would cost more to fix it up than it would to build a new school. Architects found out in August that the vacant Mountain Gateway Community College building also would be too expensive to convert into a middle school. City Manager Jason Tyree said the city wants to use $10,000 in school carryover funds to launch another study to determine the feasibility of building a new middle school addition to the high school campus.
