Around 11:45 a.m., Rockbridge County High School evacuated students and staff after receiving a recorded message stating that a bomb was inside the building. School officials sent all students to the football field bleachers before dismissing students early. Then, the school cancelled all Tuesday after-school activities, including sporting events. Phillip Thompson, superintendent of Rockbridge County Public Schools, said law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of the building. He believes the bomb threat is a hoax.
Rockbridge County Public School officials said The Rockbridge County Sherriff’s Office will have a “larger presence than usual” on Wednesday, as students return to school.
