Madeline Fuentes, a Boxerwood educator, said participants will weigh and record their compostable scraps over the next 10 weeks. She said the organization was awarded a $14,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to buy the composters given to the participants free of charge. Last year’s 80 participants composted over 4,000 pounds of waste that would’ve wound up at the local landfill.
