A mix of seven Rockbridge County High School teams started practice in preparation for delayed seasons.
The first contest for winter sports will be in basketball Dec. 21. While those players are back to conditioning, a sport like wrestling, where social distancing is unattainable, won’t get to start practicing until Dec. 14.
Fall sports will be back in March and spring sports will resume in April. Some of the teams in these seasons, such as football, baseball, and lacrosse have already started conditioning.
The Virginia High School League called off all sports in mid-March and teams did not get to condition over the summer and most of fall. Coaches and athletes are now adjusting to new health-plan requirements and are getting the rust off after so much time away.
