Rockbridge Regional Jail tackles overcrowding, repeat offenses

By Grace Mamon

Rockbridge Regional Jail is holding double the number of inmates it was designed to house.

Superintendent Derek Almarode said overcrowding is a result of the high repeat offender rate. About 80% of inmates are repeat offenders.

But the jail is working with outside agencies to implement a re-entry program with the goal of lowering both overcrowding and repeat offenses.
