Timber company lays off 30 in Buena Vista as tariffs disrupt trade

Virginia’s timber industry has taken a big hit because of the U.S. and China trade war. Northwest Hardwoods, based in Tacoma, Washington, plans to close one of its two plants in Buena Vista on Nov. 20, putting 30 people out of work. But managers of other Rockbridge area timber companies say they hope to weather the bad times.
