For four years, Lexington resident Sallie Sebrell has been trying to turn the city’s last piece of undeveloped land into a scatter garden where family and friends can celebrate the lives of loved ones they’ve lost. And now, her recent diagnosis of myeloma has given her project new meaning. Sebrell presented her latest proposal at last Thursday’s Comprehensive Plan update meeting, but city council rejected it. City Council Member Leslie Straughan said the city has enough cemeteries and should use the Spotswood Road plot for something that can generate tax revenue.
