Lexington is in a battle with the state over a bill that would threaten the city’s local control. House bill 824, which is backed by the Virginia Realtors Association, demands that the city change its short-term rental rules to match Virginia laws. After overhauling zoning regulations last year, the city council is reluctant to make any more changes. Several council members see the bill as a special interest group’s attempt to take away local control. The bill will be discussed at a city council meeting at 8 p.m. Thursday at Waddell Elementary School.
