A week after the story on independent candidate John Winfrey, the Rockbridge Report takes a look at the Republican incumbent in the House of Delegates for Rockbridge County, Ben Cline. Cline, a lawyer with a local law firm, has served the 24th district in Richmond for 15 years now. A traditional Republican, Cline voted down the proposed Medicaid expansion in April and has said that Confederate monuments in the Rockbridge area should remain. He also says that redrawing of district lines, called “gerrymandering” when done for partisan advantage, should stay in the hands of state legislators and not go to an independent commission, as his opponent Winfrey advocates. Cline has championed education and transparency in the state house and hopes to continue his agenda for two more years.
