Nearly 50 people from the community and congregation of R. E. Lee Memorial Church – or Grace Episcopal Church, as it is now called – came to Monday’s meeting to speak for and against the name change. After almost two hours, the meeting ended with a vestry vote of seven to five to change the name. The church’s new name harks back to the title it bore when Lee served as senior warden: Grace Church. Parishioners on both sides of the issue say they hope the decision will reunite the divided congregation.
