Rockbridge County High School senior SJ McDonald was the lead organizer of the women’s rights rally held in Lexington last Friday. Between 200 and 300 people gathered outside of Del. Ben Cline’s Lexington office to oppose his proposal for a “Day of Tears” to mourn abortion on the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. The rally addressed Cline’s stance on abortion and Planned Parenthood as well as national women’s rights concerns. The House of Delegates in January approved Cline’s resolution, which calls for flags to fly at half-staff each Jan. 22 but is non-binding.
