Two parades were held in Lexington last weekend to celebrate two different holidays: Martin Luther King, Jr., Day and Lee-Jackson Day. Traditionally, the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) host a Lee-Jackson parade on the Saturday of MLK weekend, but this year, the Community Anti-Racism Education Initiative (CARE) reserved the parade permit first. CARE’s parade aimed to emphasize tolerance, respect and peace to all, and was not interrupted by the SCV. Sunday, the SCV paraded through the streets of Lexington, wearing traditional Civil War clothing and waving Confederate Flags.
