VMI is putting finishing touches on its new Corps Physical Training Facility before the building is ready to welcome cadets. The $80 million structure is a part of the school’s Vision 2039 improvement plan, and it includes obstacle courses, a rock-climbing wall, and a track operated by a hydraulic system that will allow cadets to train year-round and in any weather. Not everyone is excited about the new facility, which some say encroaches on the old African American community of Diamond Hill. The university hopes the facility, at the corner of Main and Diamond streets, will officially open in December.
