Two experienced Lexington City Council members will be on voters’ ballots Nov. 8 to become the city’s next mayor. Frank Friedman and Charles “Chuck” Smith, who have both made careers downtown and engaged in local volunteerism for over a decade, are each hoping to succeed Mayor Mimi Elrod, who has held the office since 2008. The candidates debated for the first time last week and answered questions about economic development, infrastructure, community enhancement, and more. Friedman and Smith will have a few more public speaking opportunities before Election Day, including a candidates’ forum on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Hampton Inn Col Alto.
