Officials at The Lexington Visitors Center say tourism is a major contributor to the economy. Tourists spend plenty of money — $33 million in 2013 alone – at local hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions, including the Virginia Horse Center. The 2013 figure is 5 percent higher than the previous year’s.
