The Presbyterian Church (USA) recommended a change in policy last year that would allow same-sex marriages to take place in its congregations in states where same-sex marriage is legal. The policy would go into effect in June if a majority of the 172 presbyteries – regional communities of churches — throughout the United States vote in favor of it. But several churches in the Shenandoah Valley say they might leave the denomination if the policy is adopted.
