Virginia Military Institute Professors James E. Turner, Sr, and Tim Orland Moore II won a statewide faculty award, according to the Associated Press.
Thirteen faculty members including Turner and Moore from Virginia colleges and universities will receive the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia’s 2015 Outstanding Faculty Award.
The SCHEV says they’ll be recognized Feb. 19 and receive a $5,000 check.
Turner, a 1965 graduate of VMI, is the head of the biology department at VMI and is the Read ’41 Institute Professor of Arts and Sciences. He also serves as Chair of the VMI Service Committee and the Director of the Swope Summer Scholars Program.
Moore, an associate professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering department, specializes in teaching environmental engineering. He received his Ph.D from Virginia Tech after completing his Master’s degree at the University of Maryland. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree from VMI.
Other recipients of the Outstanding Faculty Award are: Callan Bentley of Northern Virginia Community College; Stephen Bigelow Cushman of the University of Virginia; Paul Philip D’Andrea of George Mason University; Gail Elizabeth Dodge of Old Dominion University, Albert D. Farrell of Virginia Commonwealth University; Jennifer Jones of Radford University; Sarah Couborne Kucenas of the University of Virginia; Lance Allen Liotta of George Mason University; Aswini Kumar Pradham of Norfolk State University; and Deborah Kay Steinberg of the College of William and Mary.
