Protests are taking place nationwide in the case of Garner and that of Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo. Last month, a grand jury in that case also returned a no bill, meaning there was no indictment of officer Darren Wilson.

Students at two other Virginia universities–Virginia Commonwealth and Old Dominion–held protests today. The observance at Washington and Lee will take place Friday at 4 p.m. in front of Robinson Hall.
