Lexington Schools Superintendent Dan Lyons has officially announced his retirement. Lyons plans to retire at the end of the school year. His last day will be June 30, marking the end of his 38 years in education.
“I’ve been doing this for too long,” Lyons joked Thursday.
Lyons has worked in local school systems for the last 30 years. When he came to the area he spent seven years teaching at Lexington High School, followed by one year as a teacher at Rockbridge County High School.
Lyons then served four years as assistant principal at Rockbridge County High. He had been principal at Lylburn Downing Middle School for five years when he was appointed superintendent. He has served in that capacity for 13 years.
