Local colleges are facing more rigorous federal reporting requirements this year for incidents of sexual misconduct and dating violence. Administrators at Washington and Lee University have increased efforts to comply, but some question whether having to report the statistics is effective. In some cases, they say, the new requirements overlap with ones already in place. Many colleges in Virginia have been placed under investigation after complaints were filed about their handling of sexual misconduct allegations. ​
