The disappearance of a University of Virginia student two weeks ago in Charlottesville raised concerns about student safety in Lexington and Buena Vista. While Virginia Military Institute cadets say they still feel safe on campus, students at Washington and Lee University have been more cautious in the last few weeks. Campus safety officials at W&L, VMI and Southern Virginia University say they have not changed much about their surveillance. But they say the events in Charlottesville raised awareness about campus safety in our area.
