The November reduction in benefits for SNAP, the nutrition assistance program formerly known as food stamps, has led to an increase in demand at local food pantries. More than 2,000 families in the Rockbridge area were affected by the SNAP cutbacks. Staff and volunteers at pantries such as the one operated by the Rockbridge Area Relief Association say many of these families have turned to their services in the past few months.
