Voter turnout in Buena Vista, Lexington and Rockbridge County all fell below the 40 percent Virginia state voter turnout in the 2009 gubernatorial election, according to unofficial voting statistics from the local registrars. The negative advertising turned off some local voters from candidates Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe. But local election officials said they were happy with the turnout. And the people who came out to the polls said they thought it was important to express their views in the election.
