Yesterday’s snow storm dumped up to 12 inches of snow in some areas of Rockbridge County. Surrounding areas accumulated zero to 10 inches. The county opened shelters for residents without electricity because the storm left 6,500 Rockbridge County residents without power. BARC Electric Cooperative has restored power to more than 5,000 customers. The Virginia State Police reported 76 car accidents and three deaths statewide. The Virginia Department of Transporation worked around the clock to clean up major roads. Rockbridge County Emergency Coordinator Robert Foresman said the county handled the storm well.
