A fire destroyed a home on White Oak Lane near Kerrs Creek on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire had burned three-quarters of a Rockbridge County home Tuesday by the time firefighters arrived on the scene. Photo courtesy of Robert Foresman.

Rockbridge County resident James Wilhelm lived alone at the residence and was out of the house when the fire occurred. He is currently staying with family. No one was hurt in the blaze.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of the fire at about 2:30 p.m., and Rockbridge County Emergency Manager Robert Foresman said little more than the building’s walls remained standing by the time they arrived.

While the incident is still under investigation, Foresman said authorities believe the fire was an accident, and might have begun in the home’s wood stove.
