A tractor-trailer caught fire Thursday on I-81, causing a four-mile traffic delay.
No one was injured in the fire, which occurred around 10:36 a.m.
Rockbridge County’s Emergency Management Coordinator Robert Foresman said it took almost two hours to put out the fire and clear the vehicle off the highway.
“Everybody did a great job working together to get the road back open,” Foresman said.
Foresman said the driver pulled over after hearing suspicious noises coming from the truck.
Raphine and South River volunteer fire departments, as well as Virginia State troopers, responded to the fire.
It is currently unknown what caused the fire.
