Lime Kiln Executive Director Tony Russell caused an uproar Monday night after telling the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors that he will ask his board of directors to close the theater at the end of the month. The theater board meets Friday, September 28, to decide on the fate of the 28-year-old outdoor venue. Although it has received $60,000 in pledges and was expecting a $93,000 federal loan, the theater would still fall short of its fundraising goal, according to Russell.
