Gov. Bob McDonnell arrived by helicopter at Virginia Military Institute Friday to watch about 1,500 cadets parade. First-class cadet Joe Munno said the parade was a token of gratitude to McDonnell, commander-in-chief of the state militia, for his work and support. For the VMI cadets, McDonnell brought a gift of his own: a clean slate for the cadets as they near graduation. His amnesty frees cadets with pending sanctions for school infractions.
