VMI senior leaves his mark on and off the basketball court

When he was offered the chance to play basketball at VMI, Keith Gabriel was not deterred by the fact that it was a military school.  He would do anything to play basketball in college.

Now, after four years as one of the Keydets’ key players, Gabriel has scored more than 1900 points and became their leading shot blocker during his senior season.  But his coaches say he’s valuable for more than just the stats he brings.

In his free time, Keith attends basketball games for the Rockbridge Area Recreation Organization and Rockbridge County High School, and he also stays late after VMI’s games to greet children in the stands.

Although Gabriel hopes for a professional basketball career after graduation, his coaches say plenty of people will be lining up to hire him just because of his personality.
