State police closed Interstate 81 in Botetourt County Thursday morning after a chain-reaction tractor-trailer accident caused a chemical spill and the death of one of the drivers.
This is the third fatal accident on I-81 this week.
The first accident, Jan. 27, killed a Natural Bridge man after his car hit a guardrail, bounced to the other side of the road and then overturned. On Monday evening, one tractor-trailer rear-ended another and caught fire, killing the driver. Both of these accidents were in Rockbridge County.
So far this year, there have been three fatal traffic accidents in Rockbridge County. An accident Tuesday killed a Fairfield woman when her car ran off U.S. Route 11 and struck a tree.
