For more than a decade locals have enjoyed the Lexington Skate Park at Brewbaker Field. But City Manager Jon Ellestad shut the park down two weeks ago after determining that its ramps, half pipes and other equipment had become a hazard.
Citizens are invited to a meeting at the skate park at 3:45 p.m. Friday to discuss ways to revive it.
Volunteers built the skate park. Since then city crews and its users have maintained it. Now the city is exploring the option of adding professionally made ramps and other equipment. That could cost more than $50,000, so the park’s users will still be needed to help with the park’s revival.
Skateboarder and Rockbridge County High School junior Asa Cohen says that he and several of his friends are willing to help revamp the park.
“I’ll contribute money,” said Cohen. “I’ll help with the labor, anything, breaking it down or whatever they need me to do.”
